What can you expect at Church in the Wildwood? Here at the Church in the Wildwood, all are welcome! We want you to feel comfortable when you worship with us, so here's some basic information to help your visit be as pleasant as possible. What should I wear? Whatever you're most comfortable in. On a typical Sunday you can see people in anything from shorts and flip flops to a suit and tie. Where do I park? There is limited parking directly in front of the church, and many of those spots are reserved for differently-abled guests and seniors. However, just across the street is plenty of parking for all. Is the church wheelchair accessible? Yes! We open our doors to all, no matter how they are 'able'. There is a wheelchair ramp into the sanctuary, and both Fellowship Hall and the upstairs classrooms have staircases outfitted with mechanical wheelchair accessible seats. Our church staff and our members are helpful, willing, and sensitive folks who will accommodate visitors of all abilities. Where do I go once I'm inside? Both of our services are located in the Sanctuary, which is accessible from the outside of the church building. Just come on in, and you'll be met by our greeters. They'll say hello, and hand you a bulletin. You can sit anywhere you'd like; the greeters will be happy to help you to a seat if you ask! How long does church last? Both the Tuesday evening and Sunday morning services last for about an hour. The 9:30 a.m. Sunday School classes (for both adults and kids) lasts 50 minutes. After the 10:30 Sunday worship service, all are invited to join us for fellowship - stay as long or short as you'd like! What should I do with my children? We have an extraordinary team of staff and volunteers who provide childcare every Sunday. From infant to toddler to youth, we have something for them! There is Sunday School starting at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday, if you'd like to attend the Adult Sunday School class. During worship, there is nursery care available for the entire service. Older children are excused for in-service Sunday School after Kids' Corner. How do I know which worship service is for me? We have two worship services: The 7:00 p.m. Tuesday service is smaller and more intimate. It is meditative and quiet, with plenty of time for reflection and prayer. Pastor Dave will read two excerpts of Scripture, and will deliver his sermon in a more interactive way, often asking for the opinions and thoughts of his churchgoers. Music is Taize style. The 10:30 a.m. Sunday service is our main worship service, and is filled with friendly faces. This service follows a more traditional service layout, and music is provided by our incredible Chancel Choir. We'll start with announcements, thanksgiving, and a song. During this service we'll have Kids' Corner, a time for children to gather on the Chancel steps and hear a story from Pastor Dave, before they're excused for Sunday School (optional). Then we'll have more music, Scripture readings, Pastor Dave's sermon, and an offering. Which is better for you? Try them both and see! Do I need to make a financial offering? There is no requirement or expectation that you will make a gift to the church. For us, the offering is a way of saying 'thank you' to God for the many blessings we have received. We can say thank you in many ways; by financial gifts, prayers, by dedicating our lives to greater service and compassion, etc. We understand giving to be a spiritual act of dedicating what we have and who we are to serve God, and this is deeply personal for each person. The gifts we receive go to support the church's general fund, but each pew has an envelope and pencil which can be used to direct your gift to a certain ministry or area of the church.
When is Communion, and can I participate? Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month. We welcome all people who are seeking a closer relationship with God to come to the table, as it belongs to all of God's children. If you choose to not receive communion, that is fine too. We receive communion by intinction. That means we go to the front of the worship area where each person is given a piece of communion bread which you dip in grape juice, and then consume it on the way to your seat. |
