Requirements
for Use of Church in the Wildwood
Thank you for
researching our facilities for your event. Because
The Church in the Wildwood is a
Christian church (United Church of Christ), and seeks to be a continuing
witness
to Jesus Christ in our community, we wish
each prospective group requesting use of our facilities to understand
the following:
Each couple
that chooses to be married at The Church in the Wildwood has
two options:
1) If
the couple would like to be married by the resident pastor of The
Church in the
Wildwood, Rev. David Shaw, the following
three conditions apply:
- Music must reflect
the spirit of Christian worship, and be approved by the
Minister
and/or Music Director. Any party planning
wedding services in the church and wishing to use the services of the
church organist
must contact the Music Director to confirm
the date and to discuss all music. If the church organist is unable to
play
for the event, the Music Director will
provide the name of another organist/pianist to contact. Persons wishing
to employ
a musician other than the church
organist need to get prior approval from the Music Director. The Music
Director, if
requested, can also assist you in securing
the services of a substitute musician or the services of a soloist.
Placement of
selections during the wedding service will be
at the discretion of the Minister. The use of CD's and/or other
recorded music
is permitted but not encouraged.
- Wedding
ceremonies held in The Church in the Wildwood, UCC, will have Christian
content as a
normal part of the ceremony. It is not
appropriate to ask the resident pastor to omit references to Jesus
Christ, God, and
the Holy Spirit.
- Two
pre-marital counseling sessions, of approximately one hour each, must be
attended with the
resident pastor no later than four weeks
before the scheduled wedding ceremony.
2)
If the couple has an officiant of their own choosing, The Church in the
Wildwood
asks that a few conditions be met:
- That the
officiating minister be an ordained minister in a widely recognized
Christian denomination
or Church organization (United Methodist,
Baptist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Lutheran, for example).
- That
the wedding party respect the sanctuary and traditions of The Church in
the Wildwood by
keeping the traditional chancel cross of The
Church in the Wildwood visible in the chancel area for the wedding
service.
- That
the officiating minister contact the resident pastor, Rev. David Shaw,
at least 1 month
prior to the service, to briefly discuss the
service.
Additional
information regarding use of the building or services of the church may
be secured
from Jen, Church Administrator and
Event Coordinator, at 684-9427, during office hours Monday through
