Youth

At Church in the Wildwood we value our youth in unique and empowering ways.

Twice a year youth lead worship. They play the music, preach, read, teach each other, usher, and pray. Our

youth are considered full members of the church. They are treasured for their wisdom and their need to grow. They value each other through friendships and a common understanding that not every child goes to church, but it is still important for them to do so as young Christians. They ask hard questions of each other, parents, other adults, and the staff. They are free to choose a spiritual path that encompasses their own unique gifts while also learning about God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, and the Church. Many of our youth (though not all) embrace the notion that the Bible is to be taken so seriously that it can’t be taken literally.

In 2011, our youth journeyed to Lame Deer, Montana, for their first ever Mission trip as a group.
They perform service projects together. They continue to learn, grow, and have fun. They support our food pantry. They learn about systems of injustice and oppression as they wrestle with what they wish to contribute to the world as they mature. They continue to remember the multitude of blessings that God has poured out for them and they continue to understand what it means to be a Christian in the world.
However, youth at Church in the Wildwood also have fun…Lots of fun. The laughter on Wednesday nights at Youth Group is both spontaneous and infectious. They laugh with each other, at Pastor Dave from time to time, and really know how to have a good time while they’re learning. Youth Education is never dull, frequently enlightening, and sometimes a little unorthodox. Through laughter and learning our youth come to learn how valuable they are as individuals as well as the value of belonging to a community of faith.

One of our youth, Abbi C., was so moved by her experience at the reservation, that she wrote a poem! It can be found here, on her blog, Random Collections of Writing

Another youth, Casey O., has been involved in our Food Pantry since the beginning. This summer, he wrote an incredible piece that was published in the Cascade Echo. After reading it, a surprising number of Ute Pass community members came into the Pantry to meet Casey and make financial donations to the Food Pantry's continued work. Thanks, Casey!

Our youth matter! They are somebody! They are beautiful children of God! We’re doing our very best to try and take care of them as they blossom into thoughtful, compassionate, and loving teens and adults.
